Yokomuki Onsen

Inawashiro Town, Fukushima Prefecture

横向温泉スキー場 福島県猪苗代町

Yokomuki Onsen is a ski area located in the northeastern region of Inawashiro Town in Fukushima Prefecture. Two ski lifts used to be operating at Yokomuki Onsen, but the single lift has been closed for a long time. This ski area has had a complicated recent operating history. It was last open during the 2018 winter season. The ski run by the pair lift is currently used by nearby Minowa ski area as the end section of a tree run course.

Further Information

  • It is unclear when Yokomuko Onsen Ski Area first opened

  • The ski area can be seen on the above aerial image from 1971, but it is thought that it opened in the 1960s

  • At one time there were two ski lifts operating at Yokomuki Onsen, in two separate areas

  • The two areas of Yokomuki Onsen were located on either side of a hotel, Mount Bandai  マウント磐梯

  • The Number 2 single lift and associated ski course were a few hundred metres to the north-west of the hotel

  • That area has been closed for many years but the abandoned ski lift remains in place

  • The Number 1 pair lift is located across the road from the hotel

  • In later seasons the pair lift was only open at weekends

  • That lift remains in place and seemingly in good condition, so a re-opening might be possible

  • Since around 2014 Yokomuki Onsen has had a history of being open and closed

  • It was last open during the 2018 season

  • The larger Minowa Ski Area  箕輪スキー場  is about 1km to the south of Yokomuki Onsen

  • In February 2022, Minowa opened a new tree-run course (tentative name D course)

  • That new course starts from the upper part of the C Lift at Minowa and ends up at the top of the Number 1 course of Yokomuki Onsen Ski Area

  • Minowa provided a regular shuttle bus to take skiers and snowboarders from the base of Yokomuki Onsen back to Minowa

  • In December 2022 the ski area announced that the course will again open for 2022-2023 season, and be called D Course
