To disenchant in Minecraft, you need to destroy the enhancement with a Grindstone. While you can keep the enchantment, you can use an Anvil to create a new enchantment. This wikiHow will show you how to disenchant items in Minecraft.
Things You Should Know
- To disenchant an item in Minecraft, place it into a Grindstone. This creates a non-enchanted item of the same type and durability.
- Combine two enchanted items in an Anvil to create a new item with a new enchantment.
- Remove curses by placing two cursed items in a crafting table.
Steps
-
Obtain a Grindstone. You can find Grindstones inside a village weaponsmith's structure.
- You can also craft a Grindstone with 2 Sticks, 1 Stone Slab, and 2 of any Planks.[1]
- If you're using Bedrock Edition, place a supporting block underneath the Grindstone. Otherwise, it will break upon use.
-
Place the enchanted item in the input slot. When you place one enchanted item in the input slot, you'll create a new, non-enchanted item of the same type and durability.
- If you place two items of the same type (enchanted, mixed, or non-enchanted), you'll create a new, non-enchanted item of that type. The durability will be the sum of the two input items' durability. If either of the items were enchanted, you'll receive some experience.

Place the disenchanted item in your inventory. This will be on the right side of the arrow.
-
Obtain an Anvil. You can craft an Anvil with three Iron Blocks and 4 Iron Ingots, or you can find one in the Forge room of the woodland mansion.
- If you have two items with undesirable enchantments, you can combine them for a new item with a new enchantment.
-
Combine two enchanted items. This works best if you have items with weaker enchantments.
- The two items will combine into one.
-
Place the new item in your inventory. If you hover over the new item, you'll see the new enchantment.
-
Obtain a crafting table. You can make a crafting table with four Planks of any type, or you can find them naturally in witch huts, igloos, near pillager outposts, and in some village houses.
- Use this method if you want to remove curses from items.
-
Place two of the same item in the crafting table. These two items must both be cursed.
- You can also use one cursed item and one non-enchanted item as long as they're the same item.
- The two items will combine into one without the curse.
-
Place the item in your inventory. The curse is removed.
