David Wenham stars at Western Sydney University graduation

Prominent Australian actor David Wenham will be recognised with an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from Western Sydney University for his remarkable and multifaceted career spanning theatre, film and television.

Starring in some of Australia’s most successful and critically-acclaimed productions, David Wenham’s unique craft as an actor –  as well as a director and producer – has advanced the local film industry, attracted the attention of international audiences, and championed Australian stories.

Vice-Chancellor and President of Western Sydney University, Professor Barney Glover, said the University was proud that Mr Wenham honed his skills locally at Western Sydney University’s Theatre Nepean, inspiring many to pursue their careers in the dramatic arts.

“Through this award, we celebrate Mr Wenham’s vast contribution to the arts, both within Australia and internationally,” said Professor Barney Glover.

Acknowledging the award, Mr Wenham said, “Receiving an honorary doctorate from the University from which I graduated means a great deal. It has been a privilege to be a part of Australian film and television industry and watching the next generation emerge from the region is a joy.”

David Wenham has been awarded two Australian Film Institute awards; received a Screen Actors Guild Award for ‘Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture’; appeared in national and internationally awarded films, such as The Boys, the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Pirates of the Caribbean; and starred in the long-running Australia series SeaChange. He recently made his directorial debut with Ellipsis.

David Wenham will be awarded with an Honorary Doctorate at Western Sydney University’s graduation ceremony, 2.30pm on Monday 30 April 2018 at the University’s Parramatta South campus.
