It’s any Paris Fashion Week attendee’s worst nightmare: Showing up to a show in your brand new dress with the tags still on it. The horror! That’s precisely what happened to Kim Kardashian earlier this morning. The reality star and business mogul showed up for Balenciaga’s fall 2024 presentation in the label’s black lace gown, complete with an open back, floor-length train, and a big white tag still attached to the back. It didn’t take long for the internet to notice. “Is that a price tag on her dress?,” commented one fashion fan on Vogue’s TikTok. Turns out, however, it was a purposeful fashion gimmick—courtesy of Demna.

Throughout the designer’s new fall collection today, big white Balenciaga price tags were affixed to all sorts of pieces—including his plaid skirts and oversized totes. Kardashian’s look, then, only served as a continuation of what was debuted on the catwalk. The big question is: Why did Balenciaga purposefully leave all of the tags on, especially given the sample looks were not for immediate sale? Perhaps it was a commentary on luxury fashion’s skyrocketing price tags; Demna loves taking a cheeky, ironic approach to his work. Or perhaps Demna simply liked the look of them, and knew it would get people talking. They say all press is good press. Whatever the case may be, Kardashian—his ongoing muse—was obviously the best VIP guest to pull it off in the front row.
