Why Rick Moranis Won’t Be in the New Ghostbusters

So far, Rick Moranis is the only living major actor from the original 1984 Ghostbusters without a cameo in the upcoming all-female reboot, and he plans to keep it that way. In an article titled “Rick Moranis Isn’t Retired,” The Hollywood Reporter proves that it’s true—Moranis is not retired, just picky—and it’s not a desire to stay out of the public eye that’s keeping him out of the film.

“I hope it’s terrific. But it just makes no sense to me,” Moranis told the Reporter. “Why would I do just one day of shooting on something I did 30 years ago?”

It’s a fair question, and one that Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and the rest would probably answer with a simple “Well, it seemed fun.” But Moranis doesn’t seem averse to fun; the full interview reads like a portrait of a life well lived, with Moranis still shielding the privacy of his two children, living in an Upper West Side apartment with a killer view, and waiting for the right role to come along. “I’m interested in anything that I would find interesting,” he said. “I still get the occasional query about a film or television role, and as soon as one comes along that piques my interest, I’ll probably do it.”

So, spec-script writers of the world, this is your cue: that “Rick Moranis–esque” role might be filled by the real deal, if you make it good enough.
