Beat Generation author Jack Kerouac, who died 45 years ago today at the age of 47, remains an intriguing figure in popular culture.

For example, he's been the subject of -- or a peripheral character in -- several recent movies:

  • Neal Cassady  (2007), a profile of Kerouac's friend and literary muse starring Tate Donovan.

  • Howl (2012),  which starred James Franco as poet Allen Ginsberg.

  • On The Road (2012),  based on his influential 1957 novel and starring Sam Riley as Kerouac alongside Kristen Stewart, Amy Adams, Viggo Mortensen, Elisabeth Moss and Kirsten Dunst,

  • Kill Your Darlings (2013), a mystery starring Daniel Radcliffe as Ginsberg.

If you're as fascinated by Kerouac as Hollywood seems to be, then you'll want to read this -- it's his  last interview, published on Oct. 12, 1969 in the St. Petersburg Times, nine days before he died of acute liver damage.
"My story is endless. I put in a teletype roll, you know, you know what they are, you have them in newspapers, and run it through there and fix the margins and just go, go – just go, go, go." -- Jack Kerouac
