Sumire and Nene

Edit: I made a smol follow up to this. Still stand by this prediction tho 😀👍

I’m writing this because I’m mildly frustrated with how hard the fandom slept on Sumire’s character, and also because I want to place my bet before 93’s release about where they’re heading with her character in regards to hananene and supernatural-human relationships (if I’m wrong, I will casually brush this under a carpet and deny any allegations).

Okay let’s go back to the Sumire arc, to that tea spilling scene. Before this they were so adorable, like a couple of domestic koalas, and Nene approached him with such a sweet little blush holding that tray with two teacups.

And then this scene induces such a taut pause. I’m impressed with how elegantly Aidairo just slipped this in, it so subtly highlighted their growing communication issues. He only spilled one cup– she could have drank the other alone, but she clearly wanted to drink together with him. And teatime is so important for these two: we see throughout the manga (ch3, donuts, etc) that she always brings some tea to share with him.

Wtf this explains so much and also brings me so many questions?????

Does this mean Sakura is God? Because it sounds like from this chapter that she’s the one who has decided to form the 7 mysteries, and is also the one who has decided they aren’t needed anymore? Or is she acting on the orders of god perhaps?

This does start to connect a few dots tho…

Sakura was the one who told Nene to go see Tsuchigomori, using her curiosity about Hanako to lead her to the next school mystery– knowing it would ultimately lead to the yorishiro being destroyed. And this isn’t the only example! Both the Mokke and Yako lost control because their rumors were changed, which we know was caused by Sakura and Tsukasa, which gave Hanako ample reason to deal with the situation without rising any suspicions.

So perhaps she truly has been in the one pulling the strings all along??

However…

Sakura claims she’s bound to a supernatural as the price of her wish, just like Nene. We don’t know how much of that is true tho, because we know Sakura definitely isn’t human considering she’s allegedly been around for 100 years. BUT she’s also made it very clear time and time again she can’t control Tsukasa for his actions and kinda lets him do whatever.

She could’ve said this simply to gain Nene’s trust, or perhaps her and Tsukasa are more equal in their partnership then what Sakura wants Nene to believe.

BUT THIS LEADS ME TO MY NEXT REALIZATION!

Hanako has had his heart set on destroying the yorishiros since the very beginning, under the guise that its to get rid of an alleged “traitor.” However its become pretty clear to me that there isn’t a traitor among the 7 except for Hanako himself, all the other mysteries don’t agree with the yorishiros being destroyed and don’t understand the reasoning. But when asked about it, all Hanako says is:

God will forgive him… He’s so sure of it, even though he must know he’s going to cause many bad things to happen to the humans in the near shore. It made me wonder:

Did Sakura tell Hanako to destroy the yorishiros?

After chapter 91 I was so sure that Hanako wanted the yorishiros gone so he could make a wish to god, and perhaps that is part of the reason on why he’s been doing this, but maybe he never would’ve done anything in the first place without Sakura’s prompting? Perhaps Sakura was the one who told him about making a wish to god, which was what motivated him in the first place.

I mean as far as I’m aware, Hanako and Sakura have not been in the same scene together, so we don’t know what their relationship is like. Which honestly could’ve been intentional? We can’t know they are or are not working together if we haven’t even seen them in the same room

I know it seems like a bit of a stretch, but it all makes sense in my honest opinion! We know Hanako has been dead for 50 years, yet it’s only during chapter 1 we learn that Hanako has only just started thinking of wanting a human assistant (which we now know was to destroy the yorishiros). Why would he wait all those decades before finally taking action? What could’ve possibly have changed? I very much doubt Nene was the first and only human Hanako has encountered who could summon him in those 50 years

I think what’s changed is that Sakura (or maybe shes just working on gods behalf) has decided the 7 mysteries have to go. She entices Hanako by the rumors of a wish being granted, and even helps his yorishiro Tsukasa out of wherever he was trapped (I’m assuming Hanako’s boundary like Sumire) so they can work together for their own reasons. Otherwise isn’t it just a little too convenient that Tsukasa and Hanako reunite after so long, right when this conspiracy to bring down the 7 mysteries is going underway?

Idk I’ve digressed too much I think, but these are all my thoughts after seeing the new chapter. Sakura is far more important than we have given her credit for

Thinking about how the new tbhk chapter implies that Hanako is an amalgamation of the Amane Yugi that once existed, explaining that supernaturals are jumbled-up spirits.

Thinking about the fact that Nene being okay with dying parallels Amane being okay with dying, the difference being that he actually acted upon those feelings and doesn't want her to live through the same fate.

Thinking about how, because of his desire for Yashiro to live, he says "I won't tell you that it's okay for you to die", implying that he regrets what he did and knows firsthand that, when someone dies, that's it.

TBHK: Ch. 86 analysis/thoughts

Okay, so, obvious things out of the way first: Yay, hananene confirmed! Yay, confessions! Yay, smoochies! And yes, I do ship hananene, so yes, I am happy to see those things.

Now on to the other stuff.

Wait, you say. There’s other stuff?

Well. Yeah.

Oh my god the Tsukasa/Hanako parallels! You're so right! Hanako talking about wanting to give Nene life with his own hands vs Tsukasa saying hes always wanted to make an artifical human

I really think teru has alternative motives with aoi, I wouldn't go so far as to be convinced that he likes her? His wording was sus, and the boy himself is an enigma. I truly think there's something more going on than a simple crush.

Honestly you could be right—like it is hella sus this mention of his dream.....

I also think this!! I think Teru has some sort of plan in mind for Aoi- not the picture perfect husband and wife scenario that Akane thought of (I think hes just projecting lmao)
