Introduction

Jacob Boodrie
Professional Consigner

The late model of the timeless compact classic - one of the most famous cars of its time; the Rover Mini Cooper.

The car that was built for the people, a car that is extremely versatile and practical for day-to-day motoring while being able to deliver in racing with its go-cart-like handling. From launch, the Mini was a huge success, 5.4 million Minis were bought over the 41 years of production, and it still remains the best-selling British car of all time.

This Rover example was produced in 1998 making it a Mark VII, the final version of the car with twin-point injection with a front-mounted radiator. A full-width dashboard replaced the original shelf, an internal bonnet release was added as well as an airbag.

This example has been owned by Nicola for the previous 6 years, it was fully restored by her partner at the time, to a meticulous standard - extensive work was carried out to the exterior and mechanics.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Nicola the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I've always loved Minis with their quirky good looks and fun nature, it's hard not to love them.

Nicola purchased the Mini from a friend who previously used it daily. She always adored the Cooper and couldn't miss the opportunity to own one. Her partner of the time, a professional mechanic carried out the meticulous restoration between July 2016 to May 2019.

The car has had thousands of pounds spent on it while maintaining its original character, the car is finished in its factory and period correct colours of Tahiti Blue / White Diamond 2 (JDR) over Black/stone (SMM) half leather interior.

Nicola will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the car in the comments below.

GET YOUR VALUATION

Exterior

Iconic and instantly recognised wherever you decide to travel, the Mini is appropriate for any occasion.

Wheels and Tyres

The car is fitted with 13" silver alloys and wrapped with Nankang AS-1 tyres. These wheels present in great condition on each corner - some very minor marks around the outer edges of the wheels if we were being really really picky.

The Nankangs are dated 2015/18, with all tyres appearing in good condition with lots of tread left, due to the limited mileage covered.

Bodywork

This Mini features MPI bodywork, with new wings, front panels, door skins, rear lower valance, outer sills, floor repairs, and new wing mirrors.

The bodywork of this Mini looks in great condition, with all the panel gaps around the car looks to align very well. During our visit we didn't spot any obvious dings down the flanks of the car, everything looking crisp and sharp while standing very straight and true.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The car benefited from a new exterior respray in its original factory colour of Tahiti Blue - the roof was left in its original White Diamond 2 paint and the combination of both colours comes under the Rover mini code: JDR.

The respray is finished to a high standard, with even coverage and colour across each panel.

Again, we have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this Mk VII example looks great and in line with the low mileage and ownership, we didn't notice any chips, cracks, or discolouration on our visit. The window seals look good too and in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

The chrome bumpers, grille, door, boot handles, and window surrounds all look in great condition too.

Interior

Gloss trim with stone half leather seats - there's a lot to love inside this Cooper's cabin.

Seats and Carpets

Black / stone (SMM) half leather seats fill the cabin, The stone bodies of the chair have a retro pattern which looks great and unique. These seats have held their shape very well over the years as you would expect for the little use and mileage, and careful ownership.

A similar story is told with the black leather door cards, and carpets.

Please take a look at the extensive media for a detailed view of the cabin.

Dashboard

The dashboard is covered in a gloss wood finish and presents three cream gauges in front of the driver.

The dashboard in this Mini has no signs of any major damage or scuffs. With no warning lights displayed, the odometer showed a reading of ~58,270 miles on our visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A small and familar leather Mini steering wheel is fitted and equipped with an SRS airbag with a cream leather grip.

The original steering wheel presents in great condition in line with the mileage of this car, the cream/black gearstick looks good too.

Mechanics

A fiesty 1275cc which has recently undergone an extensive rebuild - be prepared to be dazzled by chromework.

Engine and Gearbox

During the meticulous restoration the car received new piston rings, main bearings, big end bearings, head skimmed, valves reseated, throttle body increase from 48mm to 52mm, new sensors, K&N filter, and all new gaskets.

The gearbox benefitted from a complete teardown and was rebuilt with new 2nd gen gear and rings. A new clutch kit and slave cylinder were also fitted.

Nicola reports the car starts from cold with no issues and drives well with its smooth manual gearbox powering the front wheels. Take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting from cold, driving around, and for a closer look underneath the Cooper, and the smart engine bay.

Suspension and Brakes

The car benefited from new front discs, front wheel bearings, shoes, rear cylinders, wheel bearings brake pipes and flexi-pipes. A new quick turn rack, track rod ends and tracking has been carried out. The drive shafts feature 4 new ball joints and 2 new CV joints with new inner and outer boot kits.

New adjustable rear hi-lows for the correct stance were carried out. Nicola mentions the brakes and suspension provide an enjoyable journey with the kind of stopping power you'd expect.

The Drive

With the looks this good and an extremely fun driving experience the Mini makes you feel like you're travelling faster than you actually are, the perky nature really sets the car apart from any other classic city car on the market.

Watch the mechanical video to see the car start from cold and out on a short drive along some residential roads.

Electrics and Other

Nicola reports a new starter, alternator, spark plugs, leads, coil pack, wiring loom, battery and bulbs were fitted during the restoration.

She reports that to her knowledge all of the electrics are functional and operational, in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

History and Paperwork

One very desirable UK RHD Tahiti Blue late Mark VII Cooper fully restored to a meticulous standard, all while retaining its quirky character.

This car is coming out of ~6 years of ownership with Nicola, she purchased the car from a friend, before her partner a professional mechanic went to town on restoring it. Take a look at the media to see all the history included within the sale of the car, including the service history files, MOT reports and break down of new parts and cost during the restoration.

Nicola will be more than happy to answer any questions you have about the car in the comments below.

Hi Nicola, I notice from the interior pics that there is no vinyl covering to the rear drivers side wheel arch. Do you have the covering for fixing back in, or is it miossing?

Hi Nicola,

I have a few questions for you.

Did you use heritage panels during the restoration?

Have you replaced any rubber fuel pipes to account for E10 fuel?

Did you change the final drive ratio when the gearbox was rebuilt?

Do you have two sets of keys?

Kind regards
Rob
