Derbyshire, UK: A hiker captured stunning photos of a rare weather phenomenon that appears to create an 'angel in the sky'. Lee Howdle was hiking in the Peak District National Park in Derbyshire, central England last week when he observed the rare weather phenomenon.

Howdle shared one of the images on his Instagram handle. The incredible photo shows Howdle's shadow with a ring around it. He was standing on Mam Tor, a 1,696-foothill in the High Peak area of the National Park when he observed the unusual phenomenon called Brocken spectre or mountain spectre.

"My shadow looked huge. It was in this circular rainbow," Howdle told SWNS. "I took some photos of it and carried on walking. It was like an angel in the sky over the hills, it was quite magical."

According to the UK's Met Office, the Brocken spectre effect "is produced when an observer stands above the upper surface of a cloud – on a mountain or high ground – with the sun behind them." It explained, "When they view their shadow the light is reflected back in such a way that a spooky circular ‘glory’ appears around the point directly opposite the sun."

Netizens were mesmerised with the photo which is doing rounds across social media platforms. One user said, "Aren't optics wonderful! Fantastic work as always mate." Another wrote, "That looks like something out of a horror flock coming to get you!"

Last month, a photographer captured an incredible shot of the sunrise that looked like two gigantic devil horns emerging from the horizon due to a rare solar eclipse.

The photo clicked by Elias Chasiotis showed the sun partially obscured by the moon during the eclipse that occurred at sunrise when the sky was deep red. The eclipse along with the mirage effects on the ocean surface gave the sunrise an 'evil' appearance. The effect captured by Chasiotis is called Fata Morgana.
