FISTS UNCLENCHED

Ex-boxing world champ Zab Judah becomes nursing assistant treating dementia patients

The fighter is used to beating people up for living... but now he is putting his hands to an other use at an adult day care facility

A FORMER boxing world champion has decided to unclench his fists and turn his hands to healing as a nurse.

Zab Judah, 40, returned to the ring after a four-year absence against Jorge Luis Munguia in January.

However, it seems the Brooklyn fighter has now decided to focus on another career helping dementia and Alzheimer's disease patients at the Excelling Nursing Academy in Michigan.

According to TMZ Sport, the ex-IBF and WBO title holder recently completed a nurses assistant class and is now teaching his own during the evening.

And according to Teberah Alexander, director of the academy, the fearsome fighter is a huge favourite in his role as he jots down details of each person's vitals and removing their catheters.

Judah has been no stranger to controversy in the past and gotten himself into trouble, but appears to be attempting to turn his life around after becoming a born again Christian.

Judah escaped prison in May on a domestic violence charge, although he was sentenced to three months in the joint after failing to pay child support in August.

Back in July 2006 he was arrested following a celebrity basketball game at Madison Square Garden on a Family Court warrant.

Just over a year later Judah became involved in a fight at Stereo nightclub in New York. According to the New York Daily News, he started throwing punches after being hit first by a stranger. Two of the perpetrator's friends then joined in, leading to everyone involved getting kicked out of the club.

Security examined CCTV footage from inside the night spot and indicated the perpetrators "might have been plotting something."

NYPD later linked rap star Fabolous to a crew of robbers who targeted Judah twice.

According to police reports, the Street Fam Crew, the 20-member gang that attempted to rob Judah, were all former drug dealers from Fabolous' Brooklyn neighbourhood.

In another incident, three men tried to rob Judah while he was next to his Lamborghini on West 27th Street at 10th Avenue in New York City.

The culprits drove up to Judah in a minivan at about 5am before jumping out, with one pulling a handgun on him and telling him to put his jewellery on the hood of his car.

Judah ignored their instructions and ran off as the robbers followed in their vehicle, but they crashed into a tree a block away. All three fled the scene, but one was captured by a Homeland Security agent on his way to work with another grabbed by a nearby cab driver.

Despite his new role, the four-time champ Judah is still training in the pro-boxing scene.

Zab sets sights on London trip

He told ESPN earlier this year that he has "a lot" of fight left "and even though I’ve been off, I’ve been through numerous training camps."

Judah is known by British boxing fans due to his fight against Amir Khan in 2011.

Khan won after knocking him out in the fifth round in their unification bout with the IBF and WBA belts on the line.

Judah has also been one of the 50 victims that have been defeated by Mayweather – losing a unanimous decision back in 2006.

He initially retired in 2013 before returning this year to knock out Jorge Luis Munguia in two rounds at the Sun National Centre in Trenton.

He is yet to launch another attempt to secure a fight in 2018.
