Malia Obama is making her mark in Hollywood. The former first daughter's role as a writer on an upcoming Donald Glover project has been confirmed, and Donald had nothing but nice things to say about her work.
Nearly a year ago, reports surfaced of Malia's possible role as a writer on Donald's newest television series. At the time, there was no official confirmation of her involvement. However, in a new interview, the Atlanta creator confirmed Malia was part of the writers' room, and he told Vanity Fair that she's “really focused, and she's working really hard."
Donald called Malia “amazingly talented” and added, "I feel like she’s just somebody who’s gonna have really good things coming soon. Her writing style is great.”
Donald is also working with his brother Steven on the series and he said that Malia had “a lot of good ideas.” Steven went on to joke about Malia's former presidential connections, saying, “We can’t be easy on her just because she’s the [former] president’s daughter. Nah, she’s very down to earth, and cool. So, it’s not a problem at all.”
As Vanity Fair notes, Malia is a writer on Donald's Amazon series reportedly titled Hive. According to a previous report from The Hollywood Reporter, the show centers on a character that's quite similar to Beyoncé. Before joining the Hive crew, Malia was an intern on the set of Girls and served as a production assistant.
There's no word on when Hive might premiere, but there's still plenty of former first family content to catch up on. Back in 2018, it was announced that the former president and First Lady had signed a deal with Netflix to create scripted and unscripted content for the streaming platform. The resulting contract gave viewers the chance to watch Becoming, a documentary that followed Michelle Obama during her memoir book tour, as well as the film Fatherhood and the animated series Ada Twist, Scientist.
