The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attend their first Trooping the Colour
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have had their first Buckingham Palace balcony moment as they marked the Trooping of the Colour to celebrate the Queen's birthday, with Meghan wearing an elegant pink Carolina Herrera dress and Philip Treacy hat. This is the first time Meghan has attended the event, which dates back to 1748, when regiment colours were trooped in front of soldiers so they could recognise their unit in battle. The parade is now held every year on the second Saturday of June as the monarch’s official celebration.
The Duchess of Cambridge attended her first Trooping the Colour in 2011, two months after her wedding to Prince William, and this is the first time Harry and Meghan have been seen in public since they attended the Prince of Wales's 70th birthday celebrations in the gardens of Buckingham Palace.
Next week, Meghan will join the Queen for a day of engagements in Cheshire, travelling overnight on the Royal Train on Wednesday before the pair arrive at Runcorn Station on Thursday morning. This is the first time the Duchess of Sussex will attend an event with the Queen alone. The invitation is a huge honour to Meghan; not even Prince Harry or the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have used the royal ride on an official basis.
