Lamarcus Joyner: 4 facts about the LA Rams, Florida State football safety

Lamarcus Joyner enjoyed an incredible career at Florida State, where he was a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, before the St. Louis Rams drafted him in 2014. 

The basic facts about Joyner are:

Joyner went to a juvenile detention center at 12 years old

According to the Miami Herald, Lamarcus Joyner got in a fight with a classmate at 12 years old. 

He spent a night in a juvenile detention center and was suspended from school. 

“I remember telling myself I never wanted to be here again,” Joyner said to the Miami Herald. “My mom showed up the next day crying, saying, ‘You disappointed me Lamarcus. I thought you were different.'

“I said, ‘Mom I’ll never disappoint you again.’ I felt so bad. I felt like a loser. We laugh about it to this day because I’ve never let my mom down again.”

Joyner achieved career-high tackle totals in 2018

In his five-year NFL career, Lamarcus Joyner recorded the most tackles in 2018. 

He recorded 78 tackles, including 58 solo tackles, for the Los Angeles Rams.

Joyner started 15 games this season, also a career high. He missed the regular season finale with an ankle injury.

Joyner threatened to leave Rams for Walmart

In an episode of the HBO series "Hard Knocks" in 2016, Joyner told then-Rams coach Jeff Fisher, "I can go work at Walmart. I don't need these people's money."

He didn't leave and reconciled with Fisher. He started eight games that season for the Rams. 

Joyner told ESPN about the episode of "Hard Knocks" that, "I mean, it's TV. TV sells. That's why they was here. We're in L.A.; they need a story. And I gave it to them."

Joyner signed $11.3 million contract for 2018

The Los Angeles Rams used the franchise tag on Lamarcus Joyner after the 2017 season. 

The sides couldn't agree to a multi-year deal, so in April, Joyner received an $11.3 million one-year contract. 

Unless the Rams use the franchise tag on Joyner again, he'll be a free agent this upcoming offseason.
