It's a true supreme pizza: bacon, pepperoni slices, red and green bell pepper, red onion, black olives, mozzarella, Parmesan, and basil. Our Test Kitchen calls it an "old-school supreme pizza [like] one would get at Pizza Hut, Shaky's, or a classic pizzeria." The olives and peppers are classic additions that give the pizza a strong nostalgia factor. It's so easy to make at home, and you probably have a few of the ingredients already on hand.

A Test Kitchen tip: When it comes to jarred pizza sauce, Rao's is the way to go, no question. Another tip from the Test Kitchen: "Using a very high oven temperature is a pro tip to getting that pizzeria-style crispiness, rise, and texture from your store-bought dough. A pizza stone ensures a crisp bottom crust. If you don't have one, use a baking sheet turned upside down." Voila! There's dinner, and if you have any leftovers, a deliciously cold breakfast slice just might be in your future.

What Is a Supreme Pizza?

When it comes to pizza, you can’t go wrong with a variety of toppings. Depending on where you live, supreme may be used to denote a pizza with a smattering of pepperoni, sausage, onions, and peppers, or that list can be amended to include mushrooms, pork, beef, olives, and more.

Where did the name come from? Well it may have been used for years, but in the late 1970s, Pizza Hut popularized the name when they debuted their Supreme Pizza, topped with pepperoni, seasoned pork, beef, mushrooms, green peppers, and onions.

Ingredients for Supreme Pizza

To make a supreme pizza, you'll need:

  • Fresh pizza dough: Grab store-bought or make your own.
  • Marinara: We recommend Rao's, but feel free to choose your favorite.
  • Canadian bacon slices: Caramelizes in the oven for a smoky, tender bite.
  • Pepperoni slices: Is it pizza without pepperoni?
  • Red and green bell pepper, red onion, and sliced black olives round out the toppings.
  • Low-moisture, part-skin mozzarella cheese: Shred or slice fresh mozzarella for a perfectly melty layer of cheese.
  • Grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil: For topping the pizza after baking.

How To Make Supreme Pizza

Once you conquer this recipe once, there will be no going back to delivery. To get started:

  • Step 1. Preheat oven to 500°F (with a baking stone or baking sheet on the center rack).
  • Step 2. Roll or stretch pizza dough to a 14-inch circle, and transfer to a piece of parchment paper.
  • Step 3. Top generously with toppings.
  • Step 4. Transfer parchment to pizza stone or baking sheet, and bake until bubbly, 9 to 10 minutes. Let stand 5 minutes and sprinkle with Parmesan and basil before serving.

What If I Don't Have a Pizza Stone?

While a pizza stone can make a big difference—it traps and retains heat for a crisp crust that can rival a pizzeria—using the back of a preheated baking sheet (or cast-iron skillet if making smaller pizzas), can have a similar effect.

Can I Make Supreme Pizza in Advance?

Pizza is best when served piping hot, fresh from the oven. While baking the pizza right before serving is a must, you can get ahead of the prep by grabbing your store-bought or homemade pizza dough up to 48 hours in advance, and slicing the toppings ahead of time so they're ready to throw on at the last moment.

How To Store and Reheat Leftover Supreme Pizza

Refrigerate leftover pizza, wrapped, for up to three days or freeze for up to three months. Thaw frozen pizza before reheating in a preheated 350°F oven until the cheese is bubbling and the crust is crisp.
