Certified Safety Professional

The Certified Safety Professionals (CSP) credential is the mark of the safety professional. Like the Professional Engineer designation for engineers or the Certified Public Accountant designation for accountants, the CSP certification marks individuals who have met educational, experience standards and passed rigorous examinations validated against the practice of hundreds of safety professionals. CSP are persons who perform at least 50% of professional level safety duties, including making worksite assessments to determine risks, assessing potential hazards and controls, evaluating risks and hazard control measures, investigating incidents, maintaining and evaluating incident and loss records, and preparing emergency response plans. Other duties could include hazard recognition, fire protection, regulatory compliance, health hazard control, ergonomics, hazardous materials management, environmental protection, training, accident and incident, investigations, advising management, record keeping, emergency response, managing safety programs, product safety and/or security.

Target Audience

Safety, Health and Environmental (SH&E) professionals looking to level up their career by becoming certified by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP).

Course Prerequisites

  • Have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree
  • Have four (4) years of safety experience where safety is at least 50%, preventative, professional level with breadth and depth of safety duties
  • Have a BCSP Qualified Credential

Assessment Methodology

CSP examination contains 200 multiple choice questions and takes 5.5 hours to complete.  Examinations are closed book and accessing external reference materials during examination is not permitted.
