Hilary Duff talks “really difficult” split from Mike Comrie

Hilary Duff is back in the music game with her new single Chasing the Sun, but this time she’s bringing more of her personal experiences into the fold.

In an interview with Billboard‘s Pop Shop Podcast, Duff explained, “I’m separated from my husband right now, which has been a very difficult thing to go through, but we have a lot of love for each other and we have this beautiful baby.”

Duff says the separation from her husband has inspired a lot of her new music. The singer is releasing her first album in seven years this fall. She said one song in particular from the album is “about my separation and my love for this person, that maybe we’re not meant to be together, maybe we are. It’s very, very personal.”

The couple, who was married in 2010, announced their split in January, but have still been seen together in the months since.

“I think we got to a point where we were like, we really need to honor happiness and whatever that is and however we need to sort that out or work that out, we’re doing that,” Duff told E! News of her relationship back in May. “We love each other so much and we love spending time together. So when you see us out it’s not just for Luca, it’s because we make plans and we hang out and we don’t know what our future looks like right now, but we’re both doing really good and just figuring out what makes us happy.”

The first single off the album has a similarly optimistic outlook. The song is called Chasing the Sun and definitely sees Duff back in her element with the catchy, light pop tune.

Duff said on the podcast, “It’s an exciting, new journey for me and I’m ready for it.”
