Hi, I'm ShaMecha

I am running to represent the voices of those like myself, who do not always have the time and ability to advocate for themselves. As a single mother and educator, I know it takes a village to come together through authentic engagement to do what’s best for our communities.

As your senator, I will represent Senate District 19 community to achieve our shared goals.

Senate District 19 was redrawn in 2022, stretching from Topeka to Lawrence. This  new District deserves a fresh perspective from a woman who has spent years working and living in the community. We need more representation in the Kansas Legislature who know the importance of lived experiences to inform policy choices, not just career politicians.

Next Generation Leadership

I have lived in Historic Old Town Topeka for the past fifteen years. I am raising my son here, volunteer with local advocacy groups, serve as President of the Historic Old Town Neighborhood Improvement Association, and was the 2023 Chair of the Topeka Citizen Advisory Board.

My community has urged me to step up and run for office. I am humbled by that trust, and take the responsibility of representation seriously. I will bring my life experiences, resourcefulness, and inner-strength to the Kansas Senate.

We have a state with an outdated unemployment system, a broken foster care system, and state infrastructure that needs updating, including security against cyber attacks.

Women’s reproductive freedom and family planning are under constant attack, even when Kansans have voted to keep these freedoms sacred.

As an educator and mother, I am saddened that our public schools are villified for welcoming and accomodating all students.

Our legislature refuses to pass Medicaid Expansion, leaving billions of dollars in federal aid on the table to ensure our lowest income residents have the healthcare they require.

All of these issues, and legislators voted in 2023 to increase their personal take home pay by 90% – for what, dysfunctional lawmaking and lack of care for our communities and their needs?

This is not the Kansas I know and believe in. It is time for CHANGE! We need fresh perspectives to solve these longterm challenges.

If you want a State Senator who will work EVERY DAY to fix broken systems and policies, while advocating for the needs of Kansans stuggling to make ends meet, then I humbly ask for your vote!

Kansas should be a place where all are welcome, 1st generation immigrants or 7th generation farmers. I will work hard to ensure equal justice and fairness for all, regardless of race, orientation, or income level. No one deserves to feel less than equal.
