It seems unbelievable that Olivia Rodrigo burst onto the music scene just a little over two years ago. The 20-year-old’s debut single, “drivers license,” was released in January 2021 and quickly solidified its status as a top-tier break-up anthem. The song broke Spotify streaming records, as did her first album, SOUR. Now she's set to make her return to music with her brand new album.

Olivia was named TIME Entertainer of the Year, Billboard’s 2022 Woman of the Year, won three Grammy Awards, and embarked on a nearly sold-out 40-date world tour. Not to mention, she dropped a documentary on Disney+, titled Olivia Rodrigo: Driving Home 2 U (A Sour Film), all about the making of her debut album.

After Olivia’s whirlwind success, fans are already wondering when we can expect new music from the newly minted pop icon... and Olivia has been dropping hints left and right. Here is everything we know about Olivia Rodrigo’s sophomore album so far.

Has Olivia picked a title for her upcoming album?

Yes. Yes. And Yes. In an Instagram post on June 26, Olivia gave fans the announcement they had been waiting for: her new album is called GUTS. The post shows Olivia laying against a purple background, hinting that she will be continuing her signature color scheme. Liv wears a black dress with a lilac bralette peeking through. Her nails are chipped with black paint and she's rocking bright red lips. The silver rings on her hand spell out the word GUTS, similarly to Taylor Swift's Red (Taylor's Version) album ring.

Right now it's unclear if this is the cover art for the album, or just a super cute announcement post.

Olivia revealed back in a February 2022 interview with Billboard that she already had the title for her next collection of songs, so we know this album has been a long time coming.

When is Olivia Rodrigo’s second album coming out?

Livies, mark your calendars for September 8th! In the same June 26 Insta post Olivia announced the September release date for GUTS.

"my sophomore album GUTS comes out september 8th. i am so proud of this record and I can’t wait to share it with you all! u can presave it now! xoxoxoxo❤️💜💌🖤," she wrote in the post.

Olivia has been teasing us for a while with GUTS updates. On the anniversary of SOUR’s release, Olivia gave fans an update about her highly anticipated follow-up album. “Oh man oh man oh man. SOUR turns 2 years old today. no words could ever describe how much this album means to me and how insanely grateful I feel for every blessing it has brought into my life,” she wrote on Instagram.

The Grammy Award-winner then closed her anniversary post with an optimistic update for her fans, writing, “the new stuff is so so so so so close to being done I pinky promise.”

Prior to her Instagram post, Olivia’s last update came with Spotify’s Wrapped campaign. The singer sent a special message to fans who had her as their top-played artist, thanking them for listening to her music. “I'm so excited for next year, and all of the new things, and new music that 2023 will bring,” she said.

Has Olivia Rodrigo teased new music?

Livies, we have a win — Olivia Rodrigo just announced that new music is coming, and it'll hit our streaming services soon. On June 13, the singer-songwriter announced that her next single, "Vampire," will be available to stream on June 30. "my new song vampire is out june 30th! you can presave now. so excited for this ahhhhh!!!!!!! 🖤🩸💜🫀❤️," Olivia wrote on Instagram. The cover art is a black and white photo of her in dark lipstick, with two purple bandages crossed in an "X" on her neck.

Olivia teased fans with even *more* "Vampire" content when she released a clip on her Instagram. The video is a partnership with Youtube Shorts and features a monitor in what looks like a studio. On the screen, Olivia lies in the grass with smoke blowing around her. She parts her lips and looks into the camera. The words "vampire" flash in time with the music. It's honestly giving Y2K Twilight vibes and we are here for it.

"so excited for Friday!!! here’s a first look with @YouTube Shorts 💜💜💜 #vampireOR2," writes Olivia in the caption.

Even before the announcement, fans realized that the single was going to be released on June 30 after some of Olivia’s keen-eyed followers realized that the singer marked June 30 on a wall calendar in the background of a recent Instagram post.

“THE CALENDAR HELLO?!,” someone wrote, in reference to the very distinct heart drawn over the date. “JUNE 30th NEW ERA OMG,” commented another fan. “JUNE 30th ITS HAPPENING,” wrote an Olivia update account in all caps.

Days later, this theory was taken one step further. According to Billboard, fans once again noticed a subtle nod to June 30 on the Spotify Canvas (the looping visual that appears on your phone as the songs plays on the music streamer) for “driver’s license.” On the California driver’s license that appears in the clip, the expiration date has been updated to June 30, 2023. 👀

Now of course, we know that fans were correct and that June 30th is the release date for brand new bop "Vampire."

On June 20, Livies unveiled another Easter egg by the 20-year-old singer-songwriter when they discovered that she left a new voicemail greeting on her SOUR Heartbreak Hotline. When her debut album was being rolled out in 2021, Olivia set up the hotline to tease snippets of themes and songs before they came out. Two years later, fans dialed 323-622-SOUR (7687) to find that it plays the first fifteen seconds of a piano-driven ballad that could potentially be "Vampire."

Just a few days after fans caught the piano snippet on the SOUR Heartbreak Hotline, a new sneak peek of the song has been previewed ahead of the track's release on June 30. As of June 26, grandiose production with guitars and drums plays when fans dial into the hotline.

Will Olivia Rodrigo’s second album include collaborations?

There’s no telling just yet, but fans have long speculated that Olivia has written songs with her bestie Conan Gray, who also happens to make music with her producer, Dan Nigro.

However, in a July 2022 interview with PopBuzz, Conan put collaboration rumors to rest and shut down fans’ theories that they penned a song called “Dreamlike” together. “People love to make things up and then nobody cares, on the internet, if something is true or not,” Conan said. “That song doesn’t exist. I’m sorry to let people down.”

What does Olivia have to say about GUTS?

We know that Olivia has been hard at work with her producer and longtime collaborator, Dan Nigro since August 2022. Nigro posted a selfie with the SOUR singer on his Instagram Stories, and it looked like they were back in his studio where they recorded her record-breaking debut album.

In an interview with Billboard in February 2022, Olivia revealed that she penned some new songs but she was in no rush to release them. “It’s really exciting to think about the next world that’s coming up for me. I just love writing songs. I’m trying not to put too much pressure on myself. [I want to] just sort of explore and have fun right now,” she said.
