      Season 2 – The Killing

      2012 Crime Drama List
67% Tomatometer 30 Reviews 89% Audience Score 250+ Ratings Based partly on a popular Danish TV series, "The Killing" is a moody, character-driven detective procedural that weaves a murder mystery through a full season or more. The stories unfold through the eyes of Sarah Linden, a detective with the Seattle Police Department and who, at first, must mentor Detective Stephen Holder, a former narcotics cop. While their backgrounds produce investigative styles that clash -- she's by-the-book, he's freewheeling -- they manage to pull together for the case. What to Know

      Critics Consensus

The Killing's second season feels a bit tedious and unsure of where it wants to go, but it succeeds in keeping the audience on its toes, thanks to consistently fantastic acting and some strategic storytelling.

Eric Deggans Tampa Bay Times A slimmer effort, told in a single season, could have ramped up the pace of each episode until you had something resembling an exciting series. Dec 4, 2019 Full Review James Poniewozik TIME Magazine That final, bathetic capture of Terry was at least a hint of the show's promise. The case, it turned out, did not end flashily in a stroke of lightning. Just rain, rain, rain. Nov 19, 2015 Full Review Emily St. James AV Club The Killing sort of knows what it has to do to be a good show, but it thinks that all it has to do is flaunt convention to be good. It doesn't realize that it has to do more than present an appealing surface if the core is fundamentally rotten. Rated: C Nov 19, 2015 Full Review David Bianculli NPR's Fresh Air The Killing, in other words, starts strong again. The central question from last year, "Who Killed Rosie Larsen?," quickly comes back into play. And with it, there are new leads, new confrontations - even some new characters introduced. May 14, 2018 Full Review Sean McKenna TV Fanatic I'm willing to give The Killing a second chance. I still find Linden and especially Holder compelling, exciting and enthralling characters trapped in a rain-soaked world of murder and suspense that aches to be further explored. Rated: 4/5 Nov 19, 2015 Full Review Christina Dowling E! Online Rosie is absolutely enthralling so we can't help but mourn the fact that this main character was missing for most of the show. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/10/23 Full Review the s By the time you've made it through the first season and the second season, you realize you basically watched a 30-hour long episode of Murder She Wrote. Same with the first season: acting is incredible. The acting is what makes this series what it is. Writing and plot are mediocre. Plot is sometimes laughable in how it twists in the worst ways. Over the course of 2 seasons, pretty much every person in the city was a suspect except the guy who committed the crime. If you ever needed to solve a murder, these are NOT the investigators you want on the case. And ultimately that may be the problem: there is some charm in writing characters who are flawed…it makes them a little more realistic. But these flaws end up creating characters who are inept and incapable of solving crimes until they've destroyed their own lives and everyone else's lives around them. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review David G Season 2 picks up right where season 1 left of. No quite as riveting as season one but still excellent. It was very nice to see a completion of the storylines started in season 1. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/05/20 Full Review Audience Member Love the characters and the acting is fantastic. There is a lot going on with a few unexpected turns. Again watched with anticipation all the way through. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member THE KILLING left me breathless after I watched all four seasons . Based in Seattle, the series revolves around Detectives Sarah Linden (Mireille Enos) and Stephen Holder (Joel Kinnaman) , two police officers with personal baggage. They are driven and obsessed when confronted with ugly, dark crimes. The production is nearly flawless. Everything from the haunting background music to the use of weather as metaphor is perfection. The acting is superb. The topics are timely and relevant. This is nitty gritty policework performed by many flawed characters. It makes you wallow in the mud with the characters, encouraging you to feel all the frustration and confusion that they feel. The stories are so complex that I had to pay close attention. I was emotionally exhausted by the end. I highly recommend it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member The season did start off not anywhere closer than Season 1 but the final build-up leads to good pay off with the final surprise. The good acting and some new plot lines build up an eerie, interesting season, just maybe not as strong as the first which hooked me in. Overall another great season which might not be as good as the first, but became more memorable from the finale. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
