Captive breeding / propagation

The offspring of Acanthostracion quadricornis are possible. Unfortunately, the number of offspring is not large enough to cover the demand of the trade. If you are interested in Acanthostracion quadricornis, please ask your dealer for offspring. If you already own Acanthostracion quadricornis, try breeding yourself. This will help to improve the availability of offspring in the trade and to conserve natural stocks.

Toxicity

This is a general hint!
Acanthostracion quadricornis has a harmful toxin.
As a rule, animals with a harmful poison do not pose mortal danger in normal Aquarieaner everyday life. Read the following husbandry information and comments from aquarists who already keep Acanthostracion quadricornis in their aquarium to get a better picture about the possible danger. Info

(Linnaeus, 1758)

The scrawled cowfish, Acanthostracion quadricornis, is found in tropical as well as in temperate waters. With a length of 55 cm (22 inches) it reaches quite a size for normal home aquaria.

It occurs in shallow water up to depths of 80 m, often in seagrass beds.

Unfortunately we do not have any information about the housing conditions for this cowfish but think that what applies to the other cowfish of the Acanthostracion genus, is also true for the scrawled cowfish.

Should readily accept food.
