A very attractive cactus, native to the southern part of the US and to northern Mexico, where it grows in open desert areas. It presents elongated, grayish-green tongue-shaped pads and beautiful yellow-orange flowers, followed by orange-pink fruits. In cultivation, it will do well in dry, warm-temperate climates and is hardy to USDA Zone 8.
