This Viral BB Cream Made My Face Look Like an Instagram Filter

I'm easily swayed when it comes to viral beauty products. Whether it's a hair tool that promises a bouncy blowout, a mascara that says it will give me impossibly long eyelashes, or a foundation that all the TikTok girlies are loving, I'm usually already adding things to my cart before I've even heard the reasons why I should be purchasing. If a product is good enough that millions of people are talking about it on the Internet, who am I to go against the grain?

My most recent favorite viral find? The L'Oréal Paris Makeup Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream ($9). I have dry, acne-prone skin, and most base makeup products either break me out or cause dryness around my nose, so I tend to stick with my tried and true formulas. However, as previously mentioned, your girl can't resist a trendy buy, so when I saw this affordable BB cream taking over my Instagram and TikTok feeds, I knew I had to test it out for myself.

I have an olive skin tone, so when I first purchased this product, I was worried it wouldn't work for me. There are a lot of items on the market that claim they "transform" into your exact shade when in reality they hardly blend in at all. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that not only did this BB cream transform to my exact shade, but it helped cover up redness, as well.

I recently spent way too much time in the sun without SPF (a major fail, please don't be like me), and I've been dealing with the dreaded aftermath. Not only does my body legitimately hurt from the burn, but my face is extremely red — somewhat resembling a tomato. Unfortunately for me, I've had a bunch of in-person and virtual meetings this week that I needed to look somewhat presentable for. Luckily, I purchased this product a few weeks ago after seeing it go viral on TikTok, and it worked wonders.

It neutralized the redness on my face and even though my skin tends to be on the dry side, it didn't cling to dry patches and instead hydrated my skin while blurring my pores. Rather than looking like a freshly-roasted tomato, I ended up looking like I was wearing the TikTok beauty filter.

The brand recommends applying a small amount evenly with your fingertips, then blending until the shade has transformed to match your skin's tone. They also recommend washing your hands immediately after use.

Personally, after applying my skin-care products, I squirt a tiny drop of the cream directly onto my finger, then dab it all over my face. From there I use my fingers to rub it in, and then I blend everything out using a beauty blender. If I'm planning on being out for a while or I need my makeup to last all day, I set everything using a translucent powder, as well as a setting spray.

Although this product claims to be a universal formula that works for all skin tones, and it did work on my olive complexion, I am not sure that it would work for deeper complexions. Despite having over 24,000 five-star ratings on Amazon, a few of the one-star ratings listed that it didn't match their skin tone properly. If you have dark skin, I would make sure the product is returnable before trying it out at home.
