Dragon Warrior is the first role-playing game in the Dragon Warrior franchise and was released in 1986, exclusively for the NES. This smash-hit was developed by Chunsoft and was one of the most popular games to be released in the early life of the NES console. It sends the player on a journey across the land in order to rescue a princess from a Dragon however there is another reason for the journey; the mystical ball of light has gone missing.

Exploration and role-playing are heavily emphasized in this game as the player is sent on their journey to save the princess; enemies will randomly attack as the player travels across the land. Winning in battle will level up the player, give them experience and also gold which can be used at the many towns spread across the world. To become strong enough to defeat the dragon, the player will need to slaughter enemies for experience and buy stronger weapons.

This was one of the most popular NES games for a reason; the role-playing aspect to the game is strong and the journey is an entertaining one. Search for the dragon's lair, save the princess and recover the powerful ball of light before it is used for evil.
