Last week's #MysteryCreature was the Marbled Lungfish (Protopterus aethiopicus). The marbled lungfish is endemic to Africa. At 133-billion base pairs, it has the largest known genome of any vertebrate on Earth. The skin of the marbled lungfish is smooth with deeply embedded scales. Their color is yellowish-gray or pinkish with dark-gray splotches. This pattern creates a marbling effect (from where they get their common name).
