Gold-specs jawfish (Opistognathus randalli) brooding eggs

A species of jawfish photographed several years before it was scientifically described as Opistognathus randalli by William F Smith-Vaniz in 2009. The gold rimmed eyes of the larvae can be seen inside the eggs brooded in the parent's mouth. Photograph taken in Manado Bay, North Sulawesi, Indonesia at a depth of about 12m. © 2002 Richard Merritt
