Presidents Day or Washington’s Birthday — whatever you call the third Monday of February, it’s a holiday many have off. Here is what is expected to be open and closed in Orange County for the holiday:
Government offices
Federal and state offices are closed, along with county offices, city halls, schools and post offices. The Department of Motor Vehicles is included in those honoring the holiday.
Get those library books returned before Monday if you need to — the branches are also typically closed for the holiday.
Public safety
Cities and the county might be taking the day off, but their emergency services such as police and fire will not. Nor will the Orange County Sheriff’s Department or Orange County Fire Authority.
Financial institutions
Most banks take the holiday; check your local branch before you head over. The stock and bond markets are also off from trading for the day.
Trash
Residential pick-ups will stick to their regular schedules.
Transportation
The Orange County Transportation Authority’s buses and Metrolink’s trains will run on their normal schedules.
Restaurants and retail
Presidents Day has long been a shopping holiday with many retailers offering specials in honor of past American leaders.

The first 1,000 visitors will receive a free slice of cherry pie. Doors open at 10 a.m. and half-off admission to the museum will be offered all day. The museum closes at 5 p.m. Information: nixonfoundation.org
