good at first seems demon king like in the dark continent but later becomes a pushover when he came to the human continent

haah when he first started the reformation of the dark continent many had died but he didn't care even though he's the king of that said race but now that he is in human continent he cares for the humans too much (all BS reasons aside, that's the truth) after all he can kill those that can summon the hero, kill the hero after he's just been summoned... more>> (don't tell me that an armed demon king that's used to the other world can't kill a freshly summoned hero that doesn't even know how to properly use his power and doesn't even have a weapon), or destroy the place that can summon the hero (like nino said, they can destroy the royal castle)

without the hero, can the humans really dare to attack the dark continent cause if they can what's the hero's job supposed to be for

heh here he is reluctantly accept things that he find troublesome which makes him a pushover (if he isn't then why'd the author describe his feelings like that) <<less

In my opinion,

  1. Well thought out world building, concepts and rules might be tedious to read, but to me, the depth dedicated to such details is the one which gives the shine on the plot
  2. The plot is also great, the pacing between slice of life and the story feels right, foreshadowing gone right and overall build a nice world to explore
  3. The problem is mood, often times serious scene would end with bad jokes, or something that destroy the mood, I guess it's just writing style, but it might be annoying sometimes
  4. Lastly, volume 9 and 10 is just rushed, terribly rushed.
    Spoiler

Suddenly God descend and resolve the bad guy. Then another God descend and Kain suddenly explain his background story

    [collapse]
as if to 'tie loose ends'. It leave a not-so-nice aftertaste, considering the build ups of volumes, only ends like that
Well, still a 5 star read though,

This is a very plot driven story, properly narrated instead of the usual "everything is first person". Although there is some action, it's not the main focus, instead dealing more with national and racial relationships and politics. Although in regards to character development... I can't say there is much, but don't get me wrong, as I initially said, this is not a "first person story", so although it doesn't focus so much in the characters, the plot does runs quite fast.

So, why isn't action the main focus on the story?... more>> Because the Demon King is trying to prevent a war from breaking out, thus, he and his nation has to run under a certain level of civility, and so the story runs more on the relationship between characters representing different factions, rather than something like romance (it's there, but I can't say there is plenty).

The plot is something quite surrounded with mystery, you see, when the Demon King knows that the last Demon King was defeated by the Hero, he obviously, tries to find out a way to stop the Hero from being summoned, which includes "trying to be friendly" as an nation from another continent, while at the same time risking being labeled as the source of all Evil. As the story progresses, more of those questions are answered, but mostly at the price of new questions. The rules are very specific, so when something seems like an exception, it's because there is something fishy there.

And the characters are many, you have the Demon King as the protagonist, but the story may be counted from other people's sides too, these includes his subordinates, like the main Heroine (tragic expressionless type), a kuudere and spoiled girl Maid Knight, a smart scientist type, a sly girl that knows how to deal with people in her own way, the Demon King Generals, although this is mainly related to two: the Western Commander "Hero", a character that basically follows all the generic Hero tropes like attracting girls and being s*upid where he can be, or the Easter Commander who is a pretty girl, a genius in fight, but her brain is a brick (She is the best girl, you can always laugh with her in the story, and no, she is not part of the "harem"), and both these commanders are also "friendly" with the only remaining party member that is still alive (long lived race) of the Hero of the past. Other relevant characters are the human "student" with a lot of potential with too many girls around him, and a spy from the Demon King investigating things in human territory.

Although the Demon King is clearly very powerful, because the action in the story is very limited, this is not a story for people who want to read something light where the MC just rolls over everyone and collects girls and stuff. <<less

The story is good. Unfortunately the more you get through the story.. the main story starts to disappear and gets dragged into developing the country.

Spoiler

For instance in V5 they are starting a tourism industry in the dark continent...

[collapse]

What do I mean when they start ignoring and the main story starts disappearing?

Spoiler

Currently at V5, basically there is 3 Demon kings now. MC, Y (been tagged as the former holy dragon) and the Alva queen. However, instead of diving further in the story.. They give you 1 like 1-2 chapters of the main story of a full 20 chapters per volume. The rest of the 18 chapters are about building the city or just random snapshots of the main demon generals and maids doing their own thing. They even include the hero (that they never directly say hes a hero but nudge us into believing).

[collapse]

I feel like this story is less of a Demon King death, destruction and survival. It's more of a slice of life genre as you go deeper into the story.. Quite disappointing Hence, why this is a 3. <<less
