PSEUDEMYS NELSONI

PSEUDEMYS NELSONI

PSEUDEMYS NELSONI

DISTRIBUTION and HABITAT
Pseudemys Nelsoni is found in Florida and southern Georgia.
It occupies humid and muddy habitats: wetlands, swamps, flooded woods, water streams with weak currents, muddy pools, ponds rich of submerged vegetation and floating plants.
It spends long periods on the mainland and in the dry zones, moving far away from the water.
Being a good swimmer it is easy to find it in very deep waters, even if it does not disdain swampy zones and shallow waters. If you can reproduce a habitat of this type, it responds well to the life of captivity.

BEHAVIOURAL CHARACTERISTICS
Species of quiet and peaceful nature, it loves to spend many hours of the day resting on floating branches and trunks.
And also it likes very much to rest and rest on banks of lakes and rivers to receive benefits of the sun rays and to keep high body temperature.
Particularity of this species is that it loves to hide, especially during the warmer days, in the nests of the alligators, with which it shares, quietly and without problems, the same habitats.
Also the phase of feeding and predation, is carried out with much tranquillity and calmness, and lasts all day.
