Taylor Jacob CFR/WNFR 2015

Taylor Jacob decided to go big or go home this year. She qualified for both the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in 9th position, competing at 90 rodeos and taking home $80,508.40, and the Canadian Finals Rodeo by running at 19 CPRA rodeos taking home $26,182.25 which landed her in 2nd place in the Canadian standings. While in the Great White North, Taylor and Bo won Hand Hills AB (16.297 $1243.62), Ponoka AB (Round 1 6th 17.60 $1549.52, Average 4th $2656.32, Bonus Round 1st $7500) & Strathmore AB (1st Long go 16.043 $2739.24, Short go 3rd 16.320 $1330, Average 1st $2739). It will be Taylor and Honor Thy Frenchman’s  second WNFR Qualification, and their first CFR qual! Bo is by Frenchmans Feature going back to Frenchmans Guy X Honey Ofa Jet going back to Jet Deck, and he is one cool cat! In 2013 at their first WNFR as Rookie of the Year,  they shattered the arena record in Round 6 running a 13.37! Still gives me goosebumps to watch that run! Perhaps they will set a record in Edmonton this November?!

What kind of quirks does Bo have?
Bo is a man of many different personalities, sometimes he’s calm and cool and wants to be loved on, while other days he doesn’t want to be messed with.

How would you describe his style?
I think Bo is super fast, and runs all the way up into his turns and then sorta rolls back and turns at the same time. I don’t know if that’s the correct style or even if that’s what it looks like but its fun to ride!

Does your routine change with Bo as you prepare for CFR/NFR ? (other than preparing for polar bear weather up here in November)
I tried to give Bo a little bit of a break after coming home for the summer, but now I am back to riding and exercising him. I will run him twice before heading up to Edmonton. Other than the normal exercise, I haven’t changed much except for the fact that I ordered him a slinky and a new extra warm blanket because me nor Bo are ready for the cold weather.

What has been your favorite Canadian rodeo this year and why?
I really enjoyed Ponoka, not only because I won it but because of the format. I barely made it back to the final four and then came back and made a less than perfect run but was still able to win it. That money won also put me in the lead of the Canadian standings and within the Top 15 of the WNFR.

What is the best piece of advice you were ever given regarding barrel racing?
Hard work does Pay Off!!!

Who is your favorite person to follow via Social Media?
I enjoy following Sherry Cervi, she is very inspirational.

Who is your barrel racing idol?
Sherry Cervi

What would you like to see be done in the industry to better rodeo as a sport?
More TV time and More MONEY!!!

What has been your favorite memory or moment on the road this year?
One of the funniest things that happened was trying to find the rodeo arena in Marwayne AB. In Canada, I don’t have data on my phone so I have to use the old fashion paper map and well the rodeo arena can’t be found on a map so I ended up stopping and turning around 3 times before finally seeing another horse trailer and following them to the rodeo.

What are your favorite pair of cowboy boots & favorite lipstick, or lip chap?
My favorite pair of cowboy boots are a good pair that is nice and broke in and doesn’t rub blisters on my feet! And I can’t live without some kind of chapstick for my lips, it doesn’t really matter what kind as long as it keeps my lips from getting dry.
