Now this is a great title that tells a real story. "Greedy work" was coined by Claudia Goldin in her book "Career & Family" and it could have been written about the traditional employment paradigm in Japan. Not altogether surprisingly, this behavioral economic trend is pervasive around the world (with some noteworthy exceptions). What a great term. Indeed, women in Japanese corporations are relegated to lower-paying jobs and roles with less so-called responsibility (this often means being responsible for working longer hours only). It is no wonder that many are starting to move to startups and other firms with flexible working options. Foreign firms looking to enter or grow in Japan should think about putting together a strategic talent acquisition program targeting the huge pool of talented Japanese women. First-mover advantage is definitely a thing when it comes to attracting talented women in Japan.
