I have had the most fun week conducting in-depth HR/employment law client trainings. In my old firm, I was most often called upon by clients after they had made serious missteps and needed to be defended against EEOC Charges and lawsuits by former employees. They were usually stressed about the situation and unhappy to have to engage me to defend their company’s actions (or inaction). Now, I get to spend most of my time proactively focusing on how clients can get things right on the front end. As I told participants, handling HR matters that intersect with the law is as much an art as a science. The laws and regulations provide the “science” aspect; but beyond those parameters, how HR leaders handle the issues (for example, internal investigations, ADA accommodations requests, vaccine mandates) involve subjectivity and good judgment and require creativity, empathy, and excellent communication skills – the “art.” Helping clients hone and integrate their technical legal knowledge (science) and their approach (art) to difficult HR issues is my zone of genius. #employmentlaw #employmenttraining #adacompliance #futureofwork #professionalwomen
Very effective and targeted content. Real value add
I love this! And I cannot stress enough the importance of excellent communication skills. That’s where so many of these conflicts begin. And where they can be resolved.
Exciting. It is far better to avoid HR issues on the front end.
This is awesome!! I love how you describe having HR matters that intersect with the law is an art and a science— couldn’t agree more!
An "art and a science" is not usually a phrase applied to the law, but you are so right. Summed up, it is about good judgment and being a valuable guide to your clients. Awesome post! Kathlyn Perez Bethune, JD
So impressive! Sounds like you’re doing good by helping before lawsuits make action necessary. Go girl!
I love to see you owning your zone of genius!
Awesome Cat!!
Love this Kathlyn Perez Bethune, JD! It must feel so great to be doing work in your zone of genius. 👏
WE CAN SOLVE YOUR PROBLEMS EXPERTS ON NEW ORLEANS FOR 30 years
2yAs a former owner of a business owner with 300 employees I can tell u the EEOC is a racket salt it was often cheaper to settle from. Time to time than e gave council I hope things are fairer today but any minority fired with or without cause went to EEOC and this was employees dowsed for stealing I hope what you are doing helps as I found my labor lawyers more costly then a settlement … just saying
