This might be hard for some to hear, but despite what a company's principles might say, a company is not a "family". A company does not truly care about you as a person. A company only cares about one thing... the bottom line, its revenue. Never be led to believe otherwise.
That said, a company does care about your individual contributions to its revenue stream, much like a sports organization values individual contributions to team wins.
As emotive individuals it may be painful to ditch the comfort of a familial mindset, but it's a crucial adaptation that will allow you to better navigate your professional career and produce for your company at the highest level.
This may be an off-putting to many, but you don't have to take it from me. Netflix said it best.
"We model ourselves on being a professional sports team, not a family. A family is about unconditional love. A dream team is about pushing yourself to be the best possible teammate, caring intensely about your team, and knowing that you may not be on the team forever. Dream teams are about performance, not seniority or tenure. It is up to the manager to ensure that every player is amazing at their position, plays effectively with others and is given new opportunities to develop. That’s how we keep winning."
