Aircraft carrier flight decks are dynamic, dangerous, and loud. Creare’s Hearing Protection Helmet (HPH) protects sailors and marines from hearing loss and head injury better than their existing equipment. Creare is currently preparing its first deliveries of the HPH to the US Navy on a low rate initial production contract and was just awarded a contract to prepare for full rate production in 2024. Creare welcomed ARPA-E Program Director Dr. Philseok Kim to review progress and observe testing of our innovative technology for capturing CO2 directly from the atmosphere.
ARPA-E Program Director Dr. Philseok Kim visited ARPA-E performer Creare in Hanover, NH. Creare, in collaboration with RTI International, is developing and testing a high-efficiency, low-cost, additive-manufactured air contactor for direct air capture of CO2 (DAC). The developed contactor design will have high heat and mass transfer properties and, in combination with the high-capacity CO2 sorbent coating developed by RTI, will allow for production of low-cost DAC systems. #ARPAEontheRoad Learn more about their project here: https://bit.ly/3XhBv3I
Creare and the Two-Phase Flow and Thermal Management Lab at Case Western Reserve University have teamed to measure heat transfer and develop new correlations for boiling heat transfer in cryogenic fuel tanks. This work supports modeling and design for efficient propellant storage and transfer in future exploration spacecraft and has been published in the International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer. The first phase of this NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration sponsored program focused on critical heat flux (CHF) and has resulted in new correlations for cryogenic CHF that improve significantly on the accuracy of the best existing correlations. On May 26, 2023, NASA announced selection of the National Team, led by Blue Origin, to develop a human landing system for the agency’s Artemis V mission to the Moon. Through Artemis, NASA will explore more of the Moon than ever before, uncovering more scientific discoveries, and preparing for future astronaut missions to Mars. Creare successfully delivered two pre-position tools (PPTs) to the US Navy for maintaining the purchase cables used for aircraft landing on carrier decks. PPTs are used to insert the end of a Purchase Cable (PC) into a PC terminal before Creare’s Compact Swaging Machine fastens the terminal to the PC. This Spring 2023 delivery continues Creare’s proud support of the U.S. Navy’s carrier fleet by developing and producing innovative, safe, and labor-saving technology for aircraft launch and retrieval.
