Lloyd “Doc” Ivan Thompson was born to Ivan V. and Charlotte (Heyn) Thompson on November 8, 1939. He passed away at the Greenfield Rehabilitation and Health Care Center on Monday, January 29, 2024.

Doc attended country school at Jackson #8 and Washington #3 before graduating from Bridgewater High School in 1957. He married his valentine, Janice Lea Bochart on February 14, 1960. To this union three children were born, Delbert “Todd”, Tammy and Tom.

Doc lived in and around Bridgewater throughout his life. In 1990 he and Janice moved off the farm and returned to Bridgewater. Doc and Janice were a team. Whether they were mowing yard, dancing, playing cards or eating out you could be sure laughter was involved. A piece of Doc’s heart broke when Janice passed away in 2018.

Doc’s pride and joy was his family. His grandchildren meant the world to him. He enjoyed cheering on the grandkids at a multitude of school activities, watching them grow up and passing along the love of trucking and/or farming to the next generation. Doc also treasured getting to know his great grandchildren; their hugs were priceless. Watching and listening to the chaos on Christmas Eve was always special.

With family topping the list, a close second was the pride he had in his successful trucking business. He “legally” drove a truck for 66 years. While he hauled cattle many places, he particularly enjoyed hauling to the Omaha Stockyards. The customers he hauled for held a special place in his heart. In addition to trucking, he was also involved in farming for many years.  In later years, Doc treasured his coffee time with friends at the Bridgewater Café.

He was baptized on April 10, 1960, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greenfield. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle and at one time served on the Church Council. Doc served on the Bridgewater Fontanelle School Board for 12 years.  He was a promoter of Bridgewater and also active in the Bridgewater Betterment Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Joann (in infancy) and Marlene Fries and brother Delbert Thompson (in infancy), brother-in-law Ron Fries, and stepfather, Keith Goodale.

He is survived by his children Todd (Amy) Thompson of Bridgewater, Tammy (Roger) Jensen of Fontanelle, and Tom (Kathy) Thompson of Fontanelle, his seven grandchildren: Jake (Danie) Thompson, Kristyn (Clay) Mercer, Jeff Thompson (special friend Cameo Walker), Melissa Vorrie (Derek), Matt Jensen (Tiffany), Brett (Taylen) Thompson, Kyle (Sara) Thompson, 6 great grandchildren, niece Kim (Fries) Douthit and nephew Kelly Fries.
