Official: Stefan Ishizaki is Foreign Wide Midfielder

Today the LA Galaxy made official the signing of Foreign Wide Midfielder Stefan Ishizaki. The 31 year old Swedish player prefers the right side and has spent the majority of his career playing in his native country. He's played with Christian Wilhelmsson on the Swedish national team.

Ishizaki will be added to the roster pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P1 visa. He's been practicing with the team this week as he integrates himself into the squad. With Hector Jimenez gone and Landon Donovan with the national team, he's got the opportunity for plenty of reps.

"Stefan is an excellent addition to our team," said LA Galaxy Head Coach and General Manager Bruce Arena. "He is an experienced player, an exceptional passer and a proven winner."

Experience continues to be a key term for Bruce Arena as he tries to rely on veteran leadership over youthful energy this season. Ishizaki made his professional debut at the age of 16, and his international debut in 2000-01. He received his last cap in 2012. He also has 40 matches worth of experience in European cup competition, giving him experience with long travel.

Ishizaki gives LA options on free kicks, with Robbie Rogers looking to feature there are well. As Bruce Arena shores up his options at wide midfielder and forward, it'll be interesting to see which position he wants to see Donovan consistently play this season.

The Galaxy's new foreign wide midfielder has won four championships, two in Sweden's top division, one in Norway's top flight, and one in Sweden's knockout cup competition. His last piece of hardware came in 2012.
