SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) — Storms swept across East Texas and Northwest Louisiana during the midmorning hours Sunday (Feb. 11).

Fallen trees damaged one or two homes in the Dogwood area of Haughton in Bossier Parish.

Golfball-size hail fell at the KSLA News 12 station and at many points throughout the ArkLaTex. And several strong gusts of wind were recorded in the area.

There was at least one instance of hail the size of a large apple. The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Shreveport received a report of hail measuring up to 3″ fell for about two minutes two miles west of Red Chute in Bossier Parish at 9:15 a.m.

At the same time, an NWS employee measured 1″ hail a mile south of Benton in Bossier Parish. And there were social media reports of 1.5″ hail five miles south of Benton.

An amateur radio operator reported to the NWS that golfball-size hail fell at 9:10 a.m. on the southeast side of Cypress Lake in Bossier Parish. And there was hail the size of a medium hen’s egg (2″) two miles west-northwest of Red Chute at 9:17 a.m.

  • 7:33 a.m.: 2.5″ hail a mile north-northeast of Kilgore
  • 7:44 a.m. 2.75″ hail two miles east-southeast of Longview, Texas
  • 8:07 a.m.: 1″ hail a mile south-southwest of Hallsville, Texas (Hail fell for longer than 10 minutes)
  • 8:23 a.m.: 1.75″ hail at I-20 at US 59 three miles south of Marshall, Texas
  • 8:26 a.m.: 1.5″ hail a mile north-northwest of Marshall
  • 8:30 a.m.: 2.5″ hail two miles west of Waskom, Texas
  • 8:50 a.m.: 1.5″ hail in Blanchard, La.
  • 9:01 a.m.: 2″ hail near Cross Lake five miles west-northwest of Shreveport
  • 9:03 a.m.: 1.5″ hail three miles east-northeast of Blanchard
  • 9:13 a.m.: 1.5″ hail four miles south of Benton
  • 9:15 a.m.: 1″ hail three miles north of Bossier City

As for the thunderstorm winds, a gust of 62 mph was recorded a mile east-southeast of Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier Parish at 9:13 a.m. And there was a 59-mph gust at 9 a.m. at Shreveport Regional Airport.

As of 10:03 a.m., 5,442 Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO) customers were out of power.
