RUSTY DUCK THIS MORNING, MIKE TESELLE, KCRA THREE NEWS. TEO: THANK YOU, MIKE. HAPPENING RIGHT NOW, DOZENS OF LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS ARE GETTING READY TO RUN FOR TWO OF THEIR FALLEN PARTNERS. DEIRDRE: KCRA THREES LETICIA ORDAZ IS LIVE IN DAVIS. WHAT IS HAPPENING TODAY? LETICIA: DOZENS OF PEOPLE ARE HERE, GETTING READY TO TAKE PART IN THIS 30 MILE RUN FROM DAVIS TO SACRAMENTO. THE DAVIS POLICE DEPARTMENT AND SACRAMENTO POLICE DEPARTMENT ARE TEAMING UP FOR THIS INAUGURAL RUNNING EVENT, HONORING OFFICER NATALIE CORONA AND OFFICER TAR O’SULLIVAN. LAST MONTH, O’SULLIVAN WAS SHOT AND KILLED DESPONDING TO A DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE AT HOME. OFFICERS SAY THEY ARE STILL IN MOURNING, AND NO PEOPLE EVERYWHERE ARE HURTING OVER THEIR LIVES CUT SHORT. THIS RACE IS A WAY TO SHOW THAT THEY ARE MORE UNITED THAN EVER AND NOT DETERRED TO KEEPING THE PUBLIC SAFE. WE CAUGHT UP WITH RUN -- ONE RUNNER WHO WAS A SAC STATE STUDENT, AND SHE SAID OFFICER O’SULLIVAN INSPIRED HER TO TRAIN TO BE AN OFFICER. >> EVEN THOUGH WE ARE GETTING A BAD REP RIGHT NOW WITH WHAT IS GOING ON, WE ARE A TIGHTKNIT COMMUNITY AND CARE ABOUT EACH OTHER AND SUPPORT EACH OTHER, EVEN THOUGH EVERYTHING GOING ON IS NEGATIVE I HOPE THIS SHOWS THERE ARE POSITIVE PEOPLE OUT THERE IN REGARDS TO MYSELF, EVEN THOUGH I AM ONLY 19, ONLY A SAC STATE STUDENT, THERE ARE GOOD PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT ARE TRYING TO GET INTO THIS FIELD. LETICIA: THIS RUN HERE WILL START SHORTLY. THE SACRAMENTO POLICE DEPARTMENT IS ENCOURAGING YOU TO COME OUT AND SHOW YOUR SUPPORT OVER THE SIX HOURS THE RUN IS TAKING PLACE. THERE ARE THREE LOCATIONS THE OFFICERS WILL BE STOPPING. Dozens of first responders from Sacramento and Davis ran in memory of Officer Natalie Corona and Officer Tara O'Sullivan. The 30-mile run with six legs kicked off at the Davis Police Department on Wednesday morning and headed to the Sacramento Police Academy in Sacramento, where both Corona and O'Sullivan graduated from. The run was the brainchild of an emergency room nurse at the UC Davis Medical Center who treated the officers.Corona lost her life in the line of duty in January, and it was just last month that O'Sullivan was shot and killed responding to a domestic disturbance at a home. Those involved said the race was a way to show that first responders are more united than ever and not deterred from keeping the public safe. One runner, who is a Sacramento State student and training to be an officer, said O'Sullivan inspired her to get into law enforcement."We are a tight-knit community, and we do care about each other," said Tamara Thompson. "I hope this shows that there are positive people out there." Corona was 22 when she died, and O'Sullivan was 26. The run started at 6:22 a.m., representing Corona's age. It ended at 12:26 p.m. in honor of O'Sullivan's age.
