V6 debuted in November 1995 with their first single, MUSIC FOR THE PEOPLE, released by Avex Trax, home to the Super Eurobeat series. Therefore, many of V6's earlier songs had a strong techno/dance feel to them. Earlier that year, they were the face of the Volleyball Worldcup event. They also starred in their own drama show, V no honou.

In 1997, V6 focused on their "pop" style and released hit singles Ai nanda and WA ni natte odorou. They also got involved in more variety shows, dramas, movies, theatre, etc.

In 2001, they were the first Japanese artist to go to Taipei and perform 3 concerts in 3 consecutive days. That year in October, Kamisen also performed in Asia. They also became the first Japanese group to take part in Korea's "Dream Concert 2002". They starred in their own movies through out their career. V6 celebrated their 10th year anniversary in 2005. They commemorated the event by holding about 30 concerts in sold-out arenas all over Japan, holding 3 major "Thank You Events", releasing a hit movie Hold Up Down and releasing an album Musicmind. They also had a rare "Handshake Session" with hundreds of thousands of fans in Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka and Fukuoka.

To date, they have released over 30 singles with 13 albums under their sleeves as a group, let alone other smaller releases from their side projects as well as collaborations.
