Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes are among the most private couples in Hollywood, keeping their personal lives so secretive and professional appearances so discrete that it is easy to forget they are married. Mendes recently confirmed on Instagram that the last time the couple was on the red carpet together was in 2012 for the premiere of The Place Beyond the Pines, and they only did so because they costarred in the movie. (It’s also how they first met!) While she noted that they don’t do those things together because she’s not comfortable “exposing our very private life that we value,” the actor revealed that she’s “dying to do another movie with him.”

While the pair is protective of their relationship, they have revealed a few tidbits about their domestic life in California over the years. They welcomed daughters Esmeralda and Amada in 2014 and 2016, respectively. Gosling is the cook of the house, and Mendes finds cleaning therapeutic. "Life is so chaotic,” Mendes told People in 2022. “But the one thing I can control is my house, my kitchen. So when I do the dishes, it's meditative for me.”

Reports have claimed that the couple—who have a combined estimated net worth of $90 million—are looking to move their family out of Los Angeles for good, possibly to their vacation home near Santa Barbara, California, or even to Gosling’s hometown of Ontario, Canada. Ahead, take a look at everything we know about their real estate history.

Mendes and Gosling first sparked dating rumors when they met in 2011. But before their romance, Mendes was dating film director George Gargurevich. The couple, who had an eight-year-long relationship, purchased a Los Angeles home for $584,000 in 2002, according to Forbes. The midcentury abode spanned 1,732 square feet with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and funky tropical decor. Mendes and Gargurevich split in 2010 and the home sold for $1.27 million in 2014.

When Gosling moved from Ontario to Los Angeles in the mid-90s, he was only 16 years old. After living in downtown Los Angeles for nearly a decade and opening a Moroccan restaurant called Tagine in Beverly Hills, The Notebook star eventually bought a bachelor pad in Studio City. Built in 1947, the two-bedroom residence was reportedly contemporary and modest. He reportedly sold the property to costume designer Mark Avery in an off-market transaction that took place sometime around 2022.

2008: Mendes Invests in Los Feliz Residence

Mendes purchased a four-bedroom, Mediterranean Revival-style home located in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles for $3.2 million before she met Gosling. The 3,9000-square-foot residence soon became the couple’s family home. Not much else is known about the property apart from that it was built in 1926 and sits on a third of an acre. In 2018, it sold for $4.9 million.

2014: Gosling and Mendes Buy a Santa Barbara Vacation Getaway

By 2014, Gosling and Mendes purchased their first property together near Santa Barbara, California, for an undisclosed amount. Situated on a five-acre hilltop, the 6,500-square-foot farmhouse was built in 2000. The four-bedroom, five-bathroom main residence features rustic interiors including a great room with a vaulted ceiling and a kitchen with reclaimed wood beams and cabinetry—all of which make it the perfect city escape. The estate reportedly also includes three 200-year-old barns, a circular swimming pool, and ocean views. Since all of Gosling and Mendes’s L.A. properties currently seem to have been sold, it’s likely this is the home where they currently reside full time.
