As a “young buck” at the tender age of 24 years old, I wasn’t alive to seea lot of these Washington Redskins who wore the number 81 play other than Devin Thomas of course. I wish I was able to watch Art Monk play. The one moment I do remember about Monk is the warm reception he received in Canton, Ohio when he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2008, when I was a freshman in high school.

Art Monk’s numbers as a Redskin speak for themselves: 940 receptions, 12,721 receiving yards (13.5 yards per reception) and 68 touchdowns. Monk is a three time Super Bowl Champion, one time all-pro and three-time Pro Bowler to go along with his Hall of Fame status.

He played the bulk of his 16 year career with the Redskins before joining the New York Jets (1994) and Philadelphia Eagles (1995) in his last two years.

I think an argument can be made that Art Monk is the best player to put on the number 81 and the best wide receiver in Washington Redskins history.

On my list Art Monk is a clear number one, Bobby Mitchell at the two spot, Gary Clark, Charley Taylor and Santana Moss at the three, four, five. Monk may be the most beloved of the five but all of those guys certainly made their impact on the organization at the wide receiver position.

With that said, now it’s your time to decide, who do you think is the best player to wear the No.81?
