Meet Bethanie Mattek-Sands, The Self-Described "Lady Gaga Of Tennis"

It looks like Venus and Serena Williams have finally met their match--off court, that is. The sartorially adventurous sisters have some new competition from Bethanie Mattek-Sands, who describes herself as "the Lady Gaga of tennis."

When she showed up to a pre-Wimbledon party in London earlier this week, Mattek-Sands was wearing a tennis ball-covered dress designed by Alex Noble, who actually created costumes for Gaga's "Judas" video. She predictably caused quite a stir, and the AFP reports that she thought her outfit "was pretty sweet actually."

During her match on Wednesday afternoon, she went slightly more conservative--Wimbledon has a long-standing rule for wearing all white--but she still managed to rock a single sleeve that showed off her tattoos:

When she lost to Japanese qualifier Misaki Doi, reporters asked if her style wasn't a distraction. "I prepared the best I could for that match, physically and mentally," she said. "Things like that, it's a couple minutes. If that's going to deter me from winning a match, I don't think I need to play professional tennis. It's disappointing, but I'm still confident in my game." At least she didn't receive a fine, like she did when she rocked a cowboy hat on-court at the 2005 U.S. Open! And then, of course, there's the signature baseball-style black under her eyes, and a penchant for leopard print...

What do you ladies think of Bethanie Mattek-Sands? Do you agree that she's the "Lady Gaga of tennis"? Do you think Venus and Serena have some competition in the wildest wardrobe department? And are all of these wacky outfits a distraction from Bethanie's tennis game? Discuss!
