Murraya paniculata (Orange Jessamine) is a tropical to sub-tropical evergreen shrub or tree with graceful pendulous branches clothed in glossy dark green leaves divided into 3-8 oval leaflets. Flowering several times throughout the year, exceptionally fragrant, white bell-shaped flowers, 7/8 in. across (2.2 cm), are borne in terminal or axillary clusters. They emit a wonderful orange blossom fragrance and are followed by ovoid, bright red fruits on mature plants. Orange Jessamine is hardy to 45ºF (7ºC), and will recover its beauty after an occasional light frost.

  • Grows up to 8-12 ft. tall and wide (240-360 cm).
  • Thrives in full sun to part shade, in rich, moist, well-drained loams. Shelter from strong winds.
  • Where winter hardy, Orange Jessamine is primarily grown as a hedge or screen or as a foundation plant. Great for containers on the patio or deck in summer. Where not winter hardy, containers will have to be brought indoors in winter.
  • No serious pest or disease issues. Keep an eye out for mealy bugs, scale and whiteflies.
  • Prune in fall and spring. After pruning, water and fertilize to encourage the plant to grow.
  • Propagate by seed or cuttings.
  • Native to South Asia, Southeast Asia and Australia.
