Wunderwerck I is a reworking of a 16th century woodcut from Conrad Lycosthenes' 1557 book of wonders, "Prodigiorum ac Osentorum Chronicon." I chose the artwork via bibliomancy from my facsimile copy of a German language printing of the book. Artworks in the book were used multiple times for different wonders and this one appears to be adapted from a broadside about a ball lightning sighting near Zaisenhausen in 1543. This is my first time directly adapting a historic artwork rather than creating my own design inspired by historic styles and is the first of a series because I really loved the challenge.

This edition was printed with archival oil based ink on hand-torn cream colored cotton rag paper.
