Legend of Kage (NES)
Legend of Kage is one of my favorite games on the NES. You play as a ninja whose girlfriend gets kidnapped (cliche!), and it's up to you to rescue her from the evil ninjas and sorcerers that did it. If you've ever seen Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, that's pretty much what this game is. You run along the ground, flinging shuriken and swinging your short sword as you're assaulted on all sides by blue and red ninjas. Your sword can block enemy shurikens, but it can't block fireballs or the round ... things that the enemies sometimes fling at you. You can also jump or climb the giant trees around you, and man is it cool. When you jump, you fly about a hundred feet in the air. It's impressive, but leaves you vulnerable sometimes. Every so often lightning will strike in the background, ... Legend of Kage is one of my favorite games on the NES. Every so often lightning will strike in the background, signaling that there's a sorcerer around. They look like Raiden from Mortal Kombat. These guys are the ones that fling fireballs your way, and they can be a pain to kill, but it's very satisfying to see them hit the ground. The levels change every time you complete them: sometimes it's all about killing all the sorcerers, sometimes it's about killing a certain number of ninjas, and sometimes it's just about climbing to the top of a tower. Once in a while you rescue your girlfriend, only to have her kidnapped again at the beginning of the next level (this led me to believe there was no end to the game at first, which is untrue.) The powerups come in the form of crystal balls, scrolls, and what looks like Flip-top from the Mega Man series. The crystal balls upgrade your shuriken and give you an extra hit, and the scrolls cause a massive number of ninjas to fall down dead all at once. I'm afraid I can't remember what Flip-top does, but I think he causes you to fling four shuriken at once. (The powerups come very infrequently.) Anyway, this is one of those games that is easy to pick up and play for half an hour or so when waiting for an appointment or something. It's good, fast-paced fun, and not too hard to play. That being said, the fact that you generally die in one hit means you probably won't be beating it anytime soon, although with practice you can get quite far most of the time. Currently it sells for $5.00 on Wii Virtual Console, but you can proabably get it for less on ebay. If you have any doubts, check it out on youtube before you buy.

The legend of Kage NES nintendo
this is for the most part a great game. the only real problem is that the enemies with the throwing stars come out of no where and you have little time to react. its not the most difficult challenge ive had on the nes but i really dont have much room to talk since the only game i have beat is the little mermaid. still i dont mine popping this one in every once in a while.

I loved that the game is just how i remember playing it when i was little. Im 26 now and its so fun to watch my little 7 year old sister and 10 year old daughter get into it too! A must have for any vintage video game lover!
