Former Ohio State quarterback Tate Martell to transfer to UNLV
Tate Martell, a quarterback at Ohio State in 2017 and 2018, is moving on to his third school.
Six months after first putting his name in the NCAA transfer portal following two seasons at Miami, he will head to UNLV. His father on Monday told 247Sports about the transfer, confirming previous reports.
It’s a homecoming as Martell is from Las Vegas, where he developed as a five-star quarterback recruit at local powerhouse Bishop Gorman High School before signing with the Buckeyes.
In his two seasons in Columbus, he served as a backup behind J.T. Barrett and Dwayne Haskins. Following the arrival of Justin Fields in early 2019, he left the program, an about-face after he vowed to win the starting job over the incoming transfer from Georgia.
Martell completed only one pass for seven yards with the Hurricanes.
