Father of the Bride fans look set for a cast reunion courtesy of Netflix – because we all need something cheerful to look forward to at the moment.

The streaming giant announced today (September 23) that "something is coming" as it posted a new Twitter clip depicting George Banks' (Steve Martin) computer screen.

He receives an email from daughter Annie (Kimberly Williams-Paisley) that contains digitised versions of her wedding photos.

He then opens a separate email from son Matty (Kieran Culkin), who asks if he is joining the "video call" – no doubt a reunion.

"25 years later, the Banks family returns for a very special event to benefit World Central Kitchen," Netflix revealed in the announcement, confirming the event will take place this Friday (September 25) at 3pm PT/6pm ET on its Facebook and YouTube channels.

Of course, the last time we saw the Banks family was in 1995 in Father of the Bride Part II, so the reunion is certainly a long time coming.

Meanwhile, talk has been doing the rounds for a number of years about a possible third Father of the Bride movie, and the last we heard a script was done.

"[Director] Charles Shyer wrote a script," Bryan MacKenzie actor George Newbern confirmed back on 2017 to Us Weekly. "I know there's a script out there. And there's talk.

"I don't know how far it got but I'm sure most of the cast would be into it if the script was right. So maybe that's just a question of that happening.

"From what I heard it was pretty good and different and newsworthy. They need to shoot a third one. We need to do a third one. That would be great."
