Dell latitude 3420 Bios update (v.1.22.0, 1.22.0) cause very serious issue

IMG-20221017-WA0006.jpg

Stuck on this screen after reboot, can't hard reboot, no response after pressing the power button for a few minutes, the option we left is to open the back cover and manually unplug the battery cable, at the same time plug it back in to power on and the installation is successful

Dell programmers please take my personal advice, don't simply releasing an update if you've never carefully tested on every product , this is not child`s play , and we are not your toy.

this place i work already had 3 unit facing trouble above, i really wish no 4th unit after posting this thread

Same issue we have with multiple Latitude 3520.  Holding power button does not hard shutdown.  It's not feasible for us to ask users to take the back off the laptop.

We are facing this issue with our customers. Update have been deployed via Dell Command Update and same symptom...

Like @tsnitteam , Asking users to take off back of the computer and disconnect the battery is not an option at all!

We will have to wait for battery to drain completely to be able to boot again. I can't understand this lack of communication from Dell!

@E_L_B are you just seeing these issues on 3530 laptops?  How long does it seem to be taking to drain the battery?  We have a few staff sat waiting for them to drain, not sure there's a way to speed it up.  Less than ideal.  We have 100+ 3520.

@E_L_B 3520* not 3530.

Same issue with 3420/3520 models. Sometimes, disconnecting the charger until the battery drains to 0% and reconnecting it when you are asked to, works. Also, 60 secs reset (press and hold down the power button) may work, but Dell needs to solve this ASAP.

Yes, we got at least 7 pieces of equipment 3420 with the same problem, and I'm afraid more to come.

For anyone having this issue, disconnect the charger and let the battery fully discharge, once it's off turn it on while pressing F12 to access the Bios, it will detect a corruption on the Bios and will fix it (can take up to 30 minutes or more), once inside Bios just restore the settings and you're good to go.

Found other posts for the same issue

I'll say the same thing I said there:

I know of 8 customers who ran into this issue today and calls are still coming in for this problem.  We have a fleet of over 2000 Dell Latitude 3420's, and these are just the ones I know about.

Customers are reporting that they get stuck in this state for hours.

In some cases after letting the battery die, they get stuck in a perpetual Auto-Recovery reboot loop.

Naturally I have a host of questions

  1. Is this a known issue with Latitude 3420's?
  2. Is this a known issue with this particular update?
  3. Is this a known issue when BIOS updates are applied when certain conditions are met?
  4. Once the issue is resolved (e.g.: by flashing the BIOS from a USB stick via F12), is there anything we can look at on these problem machines to determine the root cause of the failure?
  5. What can we do to avoid this in the future?

Many thanks

Hi, I just got notify an update for this BIOS version, anyway to revert it? It just downloaded and waiting to restart.

I am afraid after I restart this laptop it will brick itself like many here.

Just an update for my case, I tried approached Dell Support for solution to disable the drivers auto update, I also uninstalled Dell Command Update to try avoid the 1.22 BIOS update. Unfortunately after the restart, it started the BIOS UPDATES! and I was shivering and hoping that it all went through smoothly, and to my surprised everything went well and now I am typing off this laptop, not sure what actually did I missed or done.

refer to this post, https://www.dell.com/community/Latitude/Latitude-3420-stuck-on-firmware-update/m-p/8285678

you have to either unplug/replug the battery cable or let the battery die/drain.

The team needs clarification from all.

Does the issue happen by installing the update from within Windows -and/or- by installing the update via the restart, F12 menu?

Hello, I came across an issue when I updated my Latitude 3420 to V1.22.0. The camera kept disconnecting and reconnecting in Device Manager. In other words, it would disappear and reappear again and again non-stop. Often times, the issue is remediated by restarting but the issue would come back at random times. Does anyone have that same/similar issue or is it just me?

I downgraded to V1.21.0 the camera so far has been really stable.

It have passed more than three days and the first answer from someone of Dell is that they need a clarification. What kind of support is this? What you have been doing in this time?

There are two post about this issue with all the information. What a shame

Yes by downloading and installing it by Dell command | update application.
