Just over 28 years since he was acquitted in the Trial of the Century, OJ Simpson looked almost unrecognizable while out and about in Las Vegas on Thursday.

Simpson, 76, appeared frail as he carried some groceries and a laptop through a parking lot while wearing a Southern California University polo shirt.

The NFL legend and ex-convict was also donning dark beige pants with a pair of light brown loafer shoes when spotted in Vegas this week.

This month marked the 28th anniversary of Simpson's victory in the Trial of the Century, when he was acquitted of the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman.

His acquittal came nine months after the well-publicized trial got underway in 1995, and around 16 months after Simpson and Goldman were found brutally murdered outside the former's home in Los Angeles.

Simpson's trial and eventual acquittal of the murders was played out on television for the entire world to see, though despite walking away as a free man in 1995 he was later forced to pay out $33.5million in damages to the Brown and Goldman families after being found responsible for the deaths in civil court.

The former Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers running back also encountered more legal problems when he was sentenced to nine to 33 years behind bars for armed robbery in 2008.

After serving for nine of those years, he was paroled in 2017.

Back in August, Simpson made headlines when he slammed the sentence handed down to former NFL player Henry Ruggs compared to his own prison stretch for armed robbery.

He said he was left puzzled when Ruggs, 24, received a three- to ten-year sentence, despite causing the death of a 23-year-old woman after driving drunk at over 155mph down a Las Vegas strip in November 2021. 

'The math just does not add up,' said Simpson, who spent nine years behind bars after he tried to steal sports memorabilia from a Las Vegas hotel room with a gun in September 2007.

'I know I went to college on a football scholarship but somehow this math is not adding up to me,' he added. 

Simpson was not alone in believing Ruggs may have got off lightly for his role in the November 2021 crash that killed 23-year-old Tina Tintor and her dog.

At one time, the former Las Vegas Raiders star could have faced 50 years behind bars, but reached a plea deal in May to plead guilty to one felony count of DUI. 

Hours after the sentence was read in the same courthouse he was convicted in 14 years ago, Simpson shared his thoughts on the court proceedings with his 900,000 followers on X, formerly known as Twitter.

'You're driving a car at roughly 160 miles per hour on a public street and end up killing a girl and her dog and you get three to ten years?' Simpson said, noting Ruggs' crime.

In comparison to his own arrest, he said: 'You go to a hotel room, that you're invited to, to retrieve your own personal stolen property - property I now have because it was ruled to be mine by the state of California - and you get nine to 33 years?' 

'Same courthouse, same city, same state. I don't know. Somehow just does not add up to me... I'm just saying,' he finished.
