As the name implies, Discovery's Deadliest Catch docuseries isn't for the faint of heart. In fact, the season 15 premiere kicked off on an incredibly somber note as the show honored three fisherman who lost their lives.
Back in January, the crab boat Mary B II capsized off the coast of Oregon, with Stephen Biernacki, James Lacey, and Joshua Porter on board. According to KGW8, the crew had been navigating the Yaquina Bay bar, with help from the U.S. Coast Guard, amid dangerously high water conditions. A 20-foot wave eventually slammed into the bow of the boat and submerged the entire vessel.
The devastating incident took a toll on the fishing community, and the latest Deadliest Catch episode was dedicated to Stephen, James, and Joshua. "Crab fishing remains one of the world’s most dangerous professions," the show's narrator, Mike Rowe, began. "We pay tribute to all the fishermen and their families who have made the ultimate sacrifice, including those lost this January off the Oregon coast." The screen then flashed to the names of the three late fisherman.
Several Deadliest Catch stars shared their sympathy shortly after news of the tragedy broke, including Captain Keith Colburn. "My sincerest condolences go out to the family and friends of the Mary B II," he tweeted.
