Why Did Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn Attend the Oscars Together?

If there's one thing that majorly confused viewers of the 96th Academy Awards (okay, there was also John Cena's naked appearance and Al Pacino not reading the names of the Best Picture nominees), it was why Lupita Nyong'o and Stranger Things actor Joseph Quinn attended the awards ceremony together.

Lupita and Joseph walked the Oscars red carpet together hand in hand yesterday, which led many to question what was going on between the pair—after all, Lupita Nyong'o was just spotted holding hands with Joshua Jackson on the beach earlier this month.

Btw, Joshua and Lupita are said to have begun dating late last year, following both of their respective splits from their previous partners.

In October 2023, Lupita announced on her Instagram that she was no longer dating Selema Masekela. In a lengthy statement, the actor said, "I find myself in a season of heartbreak because of a love suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by deception."

Just prior to Lupita's post, Joshua's split from his former wife Jodie Turner-Smith, with whom he shares a daughter, was confirmed.

But back to last night! Lupita looked beyond breathtaking as she walked on the carpet in a custom Armani Privé light blue dress, which was fringed with feathers and covered in diamonds. Joseph, meanwhile, wore a classic black tuxedo. Later on in the night, the pair also attended the Vanity Fair Oscar Party together.

So why were the actors at the Oscars together, you ask? Well, they attended the awards ceremony as costars and friends, as they're set to star in the upcoming movie A Quiet Place: Day One together (the project is a prequel to the original film by John Krasinski and Emily Blunt).

In the new movie, which arrives in June, Lupita stars as a woman on a day trip to New York City when the monsters arrive on Earth. She ultimately teams up with another character named Eric, who is played by Joseph, to try and survive together.

Lupita shared a fun behind-the-scenes snap of herself and Joseph at the Academy Awards on her Instagram Story before later sharing a vid of the pair getting ready for the Vanity Fair Oscar Party.
